Twins and rotary saws are usually considered desirable

A six or eight foot bar paired with a powerhead that can actually pull it seems desirable to me

What I’ve seen as ‘desirable’ or popular in my short time building saws. Or ones that will get bought up quickly. I usually work on 1980s to present:

Stihl 038 magnum II
Stihl 064
Stihl 066 (early, flat top, redlight)
Stihl 044 (early ks, 10mm wrist pin)
Stihl 046
Stihl MS200t

Husqvarna 181
Husqvarna 288xp (early models)
Husqvarna 266SE/xp
Husqvarna 346xp OE/NE
Husqvarna 357xp
Husqvarna 372xpw
Husqvarna 385xp
Husqvarna 394xp

Just got into Dolmar last year so learning more about what the people think were the good ones.
Boom! This is kinda what I was getting at. When it comes to value of these, everything is relative.

I would love to add a dolmar or three to my collection, kicking myself for not buying the 5100 that popped up on marketface for 200

Here’s three saws I bought because of what I read about them. I’m no professional, I just use saws for my woodworking projects.
First is a Craftsman branded Poulan 5200. 85cc. I got it because it was said to be one of the strongest stock saws made.

Next is a Homelite SXL 925. I have the later 77cc version. I wanted one after someone said this saw would surprise you.

Then when I was told a Pioneer 3200 would out cut a SXL 925, I wanted one of those. 82cc. Pretty impressive saw considering it’s age.

I only know what I know from this & another site. A lot of people have a lot more saws & knowledge than I do but these are three of my favorites.
I am 99% sure there is a similar thread on another popular site.. I’ve been lurking on and off both of these sites for a long time but the old threads get hard to find if you don’t know how to search them. I love running and messing with these things, as we all do.

I don’t have any homelites or pioneers YET. Those old pioneers seem pretty strong so would love to get into them

Its really hard to say wich saws will hold relevance to collectors and users, if your looking at it from an investment perspective its really hard to say, I think sitting on some 395's in the boxes wouldnt be a bad thing.
i never would have guessed the following the 346 and even the 241c have ammassed.
in my opinion any of the older specimen in the closest to new condition wouldnt be a bad thing to have sitting around.
if you wanted to gamble maybe buy a couple MS400's before the .1 saws take over, just maybe the newer ones flop and demand remains strong for the original.
I'd fight a dirty half naked tweaker with open sores for a 241 or 346.

No one has said 2100 yet. The Husky and the Homelite are beastly.
I thought 2100 had been mentioned earlier. That’s one on my short list, they pop up around here from time to time. Just missed on a complete and what appeared to be really-good-condition 2100 for $450 😬

I dare you to build one from scratch.

Do you know how hard it was not to drop this saw in this post 🤣

Nope, not going to do it again, once was good enough....stop dangling another one in front of me!!!!

Yeah, that was a bad miss. My 2100 came from the dump, I probably spent at least that much in parts just to get it working!

I got the Mac instead because it was only $250 and about an hour and a half closer to me. 2100 was over three hours away but I almost did it lol

If you had gotten this one, then you would have had people say "POAST MOAR PICTURES!!!!" 🤣
I do think they are one of the best looking saws of all time! I’d have to have one with a full wrap. Are parts for them hard to come by? I feel like I’ve seen 5 maybe 6 for sale locally in the last 6 months or so

Where you're located parts are probably somewhat available. I've bought two complete 2100 Huskys in the last two years and two, more or less complete, basket cases as well. I do have some parts still available.
2100 Homelites are a different matter, parts for them are very scarce.
