Evnin gents,

So I bought a granburg file n jig and it works great. (Sharpened 5 or 6 chains so far for my smaller saws that run 3/8 lp or picco)

Now I get to my 461 that runs a 3/8 chain.
Fit pretty tight between the jig but didn't think much of it.
Sharpened it without much of a problem.

Then I go to file down my rakers. (I bought the husqvarna file that compensates for the angle of the cutter)
Doesn't work because the rakers are bent outwards.

Is this something I did while operating my saw or is this one of those stupid safety chains?

Looks normal to me. Be hard to bend the rakers over. Look8ng at your first pic the rakers look inline with the cutters. I think your jig is just for husky chain. What kind chain is it?

Definitely not safety stuff! Mike, I use that type of raker guide on Still and Oregon (Husky) chain.

What brand chain is it?

Thanks for your responses here gents.

Here's the one I've got. Doesn't line up unless I just don't know how to use it.

I bought the low pro one as well for my picco chains and it works great but the rakers run in a straight line on that chain.

Here a husky chain I have. Rakers look identical to yours.

Some file guides are chain specific; by brand, or even by model.

You may need to modify that guide, by filing the slots at each end wider.

Yes sir your right. I guess they are just supposed to be that way.

How do y'all bring down ur rakers on these?

Wolverine,
I have tried rotating this style guide but can't seem to make it work.
Maybe I'm just doing it wrong?
(Just bought these guides recently to use in conjunction with the jig)

Neither the soft or hard slot lines up any where close to my rakers. And I can't seem to find any kind of video or instruction for this thing.
As mentioned, the picco works great but it only has one slot in the middle which makes sense

Thanks for yalls input

Travis

Just like the video. Except I've taken to not filing across the guide. Wore a hole through the first one. Now I just use it to see how high it is to file and check till it's low enough. You'll get a feel for how many strokes for how much its sticking up. Allows me to round it over in the same motion... Made for a much smoother chain for me.

Here is an example of a Husqvarna roller guide that I modified to work on some other (low kickback) chains: had to widen the slot to accommodate the low kickback bumper. Your chain (and gauge) is different, but might need one of the slots widened to accommodate the depth gauge position.
