Bought a used 18xp and have been running it for a few months without any major issues.
We chipped a large log that was slightly too big for the input chute. It got jammed in the drum but wasn't long enough to feed back out. I released the clutch, restarted the machine and finished the job using only the winch to move some things around.
The next day in the shop I started the machine with no problem, throttled the engine up, lifted the feeder and locked it in place to get to the jammed piece. I throttled the engine down to shut it off before going near the drum and stepped away for a moment when I heard the engine sputter and backfire. I quickly turned it off, thinking it was probably just out of gas.
I cleared the jam by opening the hood over the drum and rolling the drum back a bit, removed the piece, closed the hood and reinserted the shut off pin.
When I tried restarting the machine to lift the feeder yoke and remove the pin it wouldn't start. The starter was turning the engine but it won't run and even started smoking. It's reading 84% Ld which I think means the engine is under an 84% load. If this is the case then I have to somehow relieve the hydraulic pressure and probably replace the belt that turns the pump. Any help with how I can do this would be greatly appreciated.
