Now if that collar was like a dial with thousandth's hash marks on it so you could just dial it in exactly where you want it.........

Looks like you have some pencil marks on it, how much drop is each mark?

that's how it is. each mark is .002

I use a similar setup,it's a fine point sharpie.lol
Trace the base and it makes a 030 or so line so. Pretty high tech
I use a piece of Delrin pipe with a slot cut and a hose clamp. Stick a feeler gauge between the jug base for the depth I'm looking for. Low tech but does the job.

I'm about to try the lathe band cutting method but I'm a bit Skeered.

Just remember to feel for the ridge. Hard to see if it's there,but easy to feel. Took some learning to understand what happened the first time around.

Scott the 461 is running strong. One of these days I will video it. It's hard to do that on customer jobs as it might get a strange response. Don't want people to think I actually like running saws then they think tree work should be done for less.
