Thanks for the compliments! It’s not perfect but it’s in great original, unrestored condition. All original except the bar nuts which are in a bag on a shelf lol. Oh and the oil pump of course. I’ll take a look at the cap tonight to see what I have but pretty sure it’s the umbrella type. Thanks one again for all the info fellas

Pony, just a special note for you. It took the pump about 30 seconds or more to prime and Start pumping. So if you only ran a few seconds and cut it due to your running issue, then you didn’t really give it a chance to pump yet. If you check out that link above for the arborist site, there’s 72 pages of info on these saws. Good luck. And a HUGE thanks to all of you especially Pogo!!!!
Thanks mate, bruising and sureness is almost healed, however multiple fractures in my thumb are still not happy. You don't realise how handy an opposable thumb is until you lose it.
So upshot is that I still can't start the saw but will look into it when healed.
Re yout leaking cap part #12 in Jacob's IPL can also get old and brittle. Easy to replace and still available new.
Thanks

I think I might just get all the guts I can get for it and replace it. Thank you.

The umbrella valve is the main functioning component of those style caps. Part number is 1110-353-1600 and still an active number from (or through) a Stihl dealer for around 5 bux.

Well I ordered that new fangled old looking cap from cheap chainsaw parts. I got sick of the dealership and their awesome part “smart” system. Not really their fault and they are great people. You’d think there would be more access to older stuff or they would have a stock of stuff laying around but I guess that’s not what makes money. Anyway, hoping my next post is photos of some freshly milled stuff and all the bugs are worked out.

That pump is very similar to the Partner p-100 .Saying that I've only seen several of the 075-76 saws in my lifetime .On the Partner the weak link is the O-ring and on that the ring was 5 MM by 1.75 MM thickness ,by the bag of 25 it was 6 bucks Ebay .I might also point out what I found out was if the ring was faulted because they do wear out you might have to prime the pump if the pump discharge end can be accessed .Weather that thought could apply to this saw or not I have no idea .

I’d say you’re right about the o-rings as others have reported worn ones causing issues. They are 7x1.5 on these saws. After fixing my pump, it took a good 30 seconds for it to pump oil but it did seem to self prime.

It took me three tries to get the right size rings .If nothing else now I do have a good supply of tiny little o-rings if I don't misplace them .Such it is on restorations often times . Actually I think prior to the new ring my oil pump was just sucking air from the crank case so it could not prime .

Well here's the results of the maiden voyage. Saw could not have worked better. Granberg mill and woodland pro ripping chain. I can’t believe how fast it went through it.
