Ross,

Walk away from this thread. You will be thinking about this contraption, and how cool it looks, and how maybe you should get one..............DON'T!

Your appendages can't afford you owning one.

For the good of the community, and your family.
I was honestly thinking the same

I've had and used the Unicorn splitter which was a 3 pt hitch attachment on a tractor. They work really well. They're no more dangerous than many other tools but one has to pay attention to what they're doing.
I'd say it's similar to using a buzz saw for cutting logs.
No doubt hydraulic splitters are safer but they're slow compared to the Unicorn.
I don't think they were ever "removed" from the market. Lots of urban legends regarding products that are "illegal to sell" and so forth.
If I had one now, I'd probably not use it. Interesting how they split rounds from the side and not the end...

Well there's not that many parts to them. Some welded up channel, bearings, splined shaft, etc. The only rare thing is the auger screw itself. On the Unicorn, the tip of the auger could be replaced. (about a 2" long section)

The tip Is what I was looking for on the ones I have I believe they could be had on ebay in the last few years other than that it's a straight shaft w two bearings very simple design but I'm pretty sure they aren't available now in the us. Pretty sure they can't be sold?

i prefer the home made wheel of fortune it works good you can really test how fortunate you are to still have hands after using it.
