I have some amsoil Sabre & someone gave me a six pack of red armor 2 cycle oil so I have been mixing 1/2 of each in my 40:1 e free high test 91 octane gas. Anyone thinks that’s a bad idea? I’m just trying to use it up. Thanks.

Farmchuck: I tried a quart of that Amsoil Sabre. But I kinda thought it was harder to start my equipment with it. Then I switched back to Echo Power Blend before I found out about Red Armor.

......aaaaannnd I did just that. Muhco bettero. Bring out your torches 'n' pitchforks.

At least at 7k+ ft elevation running 24" b/c's.....the lighter powerhead wt, mystical modern whiz-bang autotune-ary, and x-torqe.....ness of the 562 don't make up for 10 additional cubes, my magic tunin' ear-'n'-screwdriver, a more robust clutch, lack of similarity to a running shoe, and less saggy AV.

Gotta love the 1xx/2xx series Huskys. Might run the 261.5XP next.

YMMV, not sold (anymore) in stores, all federal state and local laws apply...

I have gone through about a half gallon of it at 40:1. I like it. Torn down a couple saws to see what they look like. Very little carbon buildup. Don't really notice the smell.

Larry: Where are you buying Red Armor at 40:1? I only see 50:1 in Home Depot. I'd love to get my hands on 40:1

Buy a quart of oil and mix 3.2oz to a gallon

I bought a gallon of oil and i mix it 40:1. I have gone through a half gallon of oil. So i guess that is about 20 gallons of mixed fuel in a year or so. Probably 10 gallons or so through my 660 and 361 clones. The 660 can go through a tank of fuel in about 15 mins.

Yep. *s-worde stanks big time. Motul 800 is one of the nicest smelling oils.

I'll second that. Motul 800 is my favorite because of what a saw looks like inside when I tear one down, but everyone I cut with always comments "your saw always smells so good" haha. It's a nice bonus.

Well it's been almost a year running red armor at 40to1 with 89 or 90 corn free gas. It got up to12* today and I had full bar in dead ash cutting @9k with spike in and pressure. It pissrevs to 13450 which I think is near max on coil. Now what I observed is @40 to 1 saw loads up easy if a little rich and takes more to clean out but near or at right tune it runs as good as at 50 to 1. For that reason you have to adjust mix with a ten degree change in temperature or saw doesn't run as good. I don't notice a change in starting as saw always started good. I have had saw flood starting without choke cold on first pull. It's a *b-word trying to pull trigger and crank saw. Lean carb and it's back to good starts. Overall I'm sticking with it for now.

In my opinion red armor is good enough to run 50:1. I usually run 32:1 but may run 50:1 if I get that oil. I liked klotz benol better at 50:1 vs 40:1. Seems some oils are that way

In wood I didn't see much if any difference between 40 and 50 to 1 but maybe @joe97 could see a difference.

Well on the subject of just the oil, I been using echo red armor religiously for about 2 years, well over a couple hundred gallons of gas worth of mix. I found it to be awesome. Just recently I've had to buckle down and cut cost here and there to keep the living people And critters feed. So I just switched to husky xp+. An interesting note is that I been having carb issues with my hda199 in a 357xp. Throttle sticking, which I'm pretty tits the accel pump piston binding. So far I've ran one tank in the saw with xp+ oil and no issues yet knock on wood.

Update, after seeing carbon deposits on my saws with husky xp after 6 months or so, I've switched back to echo red armor at 50:1. After trying many types of motorcross oils, and factory oils, I will be sticking with red armor now.

I've always wondered if oil additives can fight each other. I figure probably not in most cases.

the oil i use is a bunch of oils that i had in the garage and got tired of having so many containers so i put them all in on jug it has amsoil saber, some of the original husky xp, klotz small engine 50:1 oil, and some others that had collected over time. the only oils that i didnt put in that jug are the stihl ultra because it gives me a bad headache so i gave them to the neigbor. i havent had any issues at all with them. i also mix my own gas i make 96 octane out of 100ll and 92 clear gas equal parts of them ends up being 96 all of my stuff starts easy and run great

i will alos add that if i do start to have problems or see a bunch of carbon building up i will just dump the oil in my old truck fill it up and run it out that way.... lol
