I don't know for sure, but I would think the 82cc McCulloch saws would be contenders for the largest displacement clamshell chainsaw engine.

Asking this because I find clamshell engines easier to work with. Basically if your lower part of crankcase can take big diameter counterweights you can quite easily reduce volume suitable for smaller diameter. So if you have sturdy full metal crankcase saw you can pretty much drop in what ever crank, piston and cylinder. If you really like to put in some time and effort different bolt patterns do not matter.
This chainsaw world is really interesting since you do not necessarily have to struggle with pipe dimensioning etc. which seems to be more like art than science.
