Another use for bar grease tool

I found that my old Poulan saw had a plugged oiler line. Someone must have used crankcase oil and left it sit for 30 yrs.
I dug some real nasty stuff out of the fittings and compressed air wouldn’t clear the line so I took the bar greaser and shot it full of grease. Even then, I had to press really hard on the tool to force it. I then used compressed air to blow the grease out.

I like this idea, but it seems that a 2-day soak in mixed fuel might have worked also. That likely would have dissolved the scum. Other solvents also exist, but gasoline is hard to beat.

It never ceases to amaze me how many bogus bar oils have been used in chain saws that lead to this condition.

All the black and brown goop on the paper towel was dug out of the fittings after soaking in WD40. It works really well as a solvent, and I can use it in the basement shop without getting the wife upset. Gas does work well, but only outside, and it’s too cold to clean parts out there this time of year.
