Built an 064 for a buddy who is very particular about his saws. His name is Mike and he goes by @Edwad around these parts. He wanted an 064/066 hybrid, so that’s what he got.

There are still finishing touches that need to be made on it:

The clutch drum will be swapped out for OEM
The bar studs will be swapped out-they don’t allow new cover to seat
The plug wire insulation is frayed and in the wrong place

Mike the Glockman did the powdering.

We need more build threads here.

So here we go...
You range now you know that the 064s are my favorite.:icon12:. glad to see you're building one I'm sure it's going to be bad to the bone.:beer-toast1:

Did this get a piston from a 288?
It did not.

You get a chance to torch it off today?
Fired it a few times with fuel down the carb bore, just to get some rpms and make sure nothing fell apart. Checked piston after and buttoned muffler up.

Thankfully I haven’t had a saw go bad yet exc for one 036 where I unknowingly used the wrong rings on a seemingly oem piston that was actually AM.

I need to build/fashion a test tank for these saws. Probably will use an old tank with a long length of line.

This saw will be sitting a while before it’s ever used.

Nice saw Doc! You told me you we're going to build it, didnt think it would be that quick. I am in awe! However, I cant do pretty saws like that, I cant force myself to cut with em and ruin the niceness!! Lol

Less common 064 vs. 066
Hybrid coolness?
Case volume?
Cylinder availability?
Not sure why the owner and builder chose this route.
I think it’s pretty awesome when you can bump up the bore size and not be in aftermarket junk territory.

Same idea as boring/stroking a small block vs building a big block. Better handling, instant spool-up (with an 064 flywheel), slightly lighter, old-school cool, etc. Like building a hot shoebox NOVA, instead of a Chevelle, GTO, or Torino. Smaller, quicker and faster.
