Looks great, very lucky that it’s not all smashed up. The fire threw me for a loop for a second until I saw that you’re in Australia...lol!

The saw hasn't seen any abuse, has 2 small dents, tried to tap one out then in the end just painted it up.
Yep still winter here in Australia, near the end of it.

The muffler on my 288 looked like a toddler used it for hammering practice...lol!

Came up real nice, wishing now I tapped that dent out.
Almost finished this saw, just need the clutch cover now.

The front deflector faces the rear.

I'm probably wrong but I think the opposed deflectors are a sound deadening thing not so much a "lite" thing.

Went to cut up a blowdown at a family friends house today. He had been working on it for three days with a little 40cc Ryobi built Homelite. I fired up the 288, started cutting and he just stood there with his jaw hanging open. Less than 20 minutes later the job was done and he understood the meaning of HOORAY 288!
