That cleaned up real nice.

I don't think it had ever been cleaned, piston was only stuck because it sat for so long.
Internals were very nice, top20180713_145935.jpg 20180711_163731.jpg of piston had a layer of carbon and dirt, not surprised as it had been sitting and the floor without a plug and top cover on.

Some of my parts turned up from the Greek today, caber and base gasket, engine is back together, this thing has got some serious compression, feels like more than my 2100.
With mix down the spark plug hole it fired on the 2nd pull and ran for a few seconds.

Great looking saw you got there! A 281 is on my short list for future builders. As you noticed, they have lots of compression which gives them lots of torque. Stock, I don’t think there’s much if any difference between a 281 and a 288. Maybe that changes when you port a 288 but I don’t have any experience to verify that. Maybe @rattler could weigh in??

This saw was going to become a 288 until I saw the condition of the piston and cylinder, I wonder if that 7cc really makes much difference.
I'm keen to fire it up but hesitant as I'm still waiting on the air filter to arrive.

For the new lower price of the 288 cylinder kit it’s hard not to bolt on that extra displacement. What would be really cool is running it as is, then slap the bigger 288 cylinder on it for a comparison. Then of course post a video for all of us to cluck about:D

The 281 is a very strong saw that I am a fan of the only thing I wish they had a decomp and I would be willing to bet @scarr could fix that for us

You can drill into the chamber and put a Stihl style one in from the top. I've done it on 2100's for people.
