i will say i watched a little bit of this guy abomb79, has some cool vids of lathe work and cutting some big stuff, really neat and matter of fact.

I met Adam a couple of years back. He’s a really nice guy, and a very good machinist.

Youtube can be a good resource for information & entertainment… If you have a fair basic understanding to understand what’s good and what’s not.

It was much more useful 10 years ago. As with many events in 2020, it seems a lot of people got into it and with quantity increasing, quality has decreased.

Past weekend our dishwasher threw a previously unseen error code (Ha, never thought I'd have to say that !). Went on YT to see what the code meant so I could try a fix. 1st video was apparently some kind of AI generated. The 'voice' was describing a potential dishwasher dryer fan problem, but the video was some guy walking around an exterior HVAC heat pump unit.
Second video stated what the code meant, then proceeded to show me how to remove the door...and that was all.
I've found a lot of very informative videos on automotive fixes, but it does seem like there are a lot more people that are doing more blathering than teaching. Either that or I'm getting old and crotchety...

I think there are a lot of click-bait junk videos meant for people to click just so they get the number of views and make some money...

I still watch a lot of YouTube. I even pay extra for the zero advertisements. You just need to locate the right channel. I like South Main Auto. The guy is a very good mechanic, and I have learned a lot watching him. I saved myself a lot of money watching guys like him on YouTube.

I'll be honest, there are some chainsaw channels on the tube that got me into working on my own 2-cycle toys (mostly saws), but then it morphed into 1/5 scale RC cars that run 26-34cc motors. I know some of those guys aren't well regarded on here. And I'll be honest, I didn't know there was even a chainsaw forum before I saw the rant from JCS or whatever his name was.

If you want a good laugh. This Chainsaw Redeemer guy is a piece of work. There is a lot of poor-me ranting, so I just fast-forward to the actual saw work just for the lol. After watching him fix saws, I don't know how anyone is crazy enough to buy a saw from him.

I don't have cable, so it's either Prime or YouTube for me.

No, there is hard to find new to me good music videos, forgotten weapons, taofledermaus, battlebots, ...

The annoying thing is I watch those, like them, and yet YT keeps pushing suggested videos of the kind I keep blocking.
I recently trimmed my subscriptions from hundreds down to about 20. Completely changed what YT's algorithm pushes.
You can unsubscribe/dislike/not watch a certain Youtuber/creator all you want, but if you're subscribed to others in that genre' they'll keep popping up.
Some of them pay YT a lot of money to "promote" them like this.

I am, as a rule of my own, not subscribed to any channel and I extremely cautiously utilize the "Like" feature - I still get recommended complete crap.

YT has gone down the poo gutter!
I feel that there is no algorithm anymore, they just push channels they want to gain traffic for monetizing.

The constant , multiple, often unskipable, advertisements are also a crap show.
I make a point to close a tab the moment YT pushes ads.

In your case YT is probably trying to figure out who you are. Like a bunch of cat videos and see what happens.

I "Like" most of the female lead vocal videos I watch - I still don't get recommendations for similar music video content.

I used to spend nights on end watching recommended music videos - once, not too long ago (2-3 years).
Now I right click and "Don't recommend channel" on at least 9 out of 10 recommendations that are completely unrelated to what I watched full length.

YT has gone the way of MTV.

I have the attention span of a gnat. When the "presenter" is just blabbing on and on....I can't do it. And sadly, that's 90% of what YT is.

I'm the same.

I prefer written information, because it is easier for me to skip to the one piece of information that I was after.
