If possible I always try to grab a saw/bar combination that leaves the nose out of the wood. I’m thinking with an 8 pin this thing should destroy 12-16” wood.

That’s the goal! Like others have said, tune the chain for your liking too. You may love it you may hate it, or use it only for certain wood, but try it for the few dollars it costs
