We ran a bunch of fast and fun saws on Sunday in a lot of different situations and comparisons.
We didn't run saws against each other to find what was the fastest saw or the fastest chain but after timing all the videos and reviewing well........all kinds of stuff I learned.
Startling realization #1 - A stock 064 with muff mod and HD2 and perhaps the wickedest fast chain I ever seen is faster than a badass fast ported 064 with brand new stock square ground chain, even pulling a shorter bar!! This doesn't mean a stock 64 is faster than a ported 64 with all else being equal but damn is the 064 ever a fine machine!!!
Startling realization #2 - cutting a knot can SIGNIFICANTLY take a crap on your cut times
Startling realization #3 - I really have no concept of what was fastest from the day until timing the videos, My gut feeling was that Shawns three cut times on the piper were the top dogs.
I need to check the 084, it may still have a limited coil.
Conclusions -
1. everything matters in making a saw fast and making a fast cut, chain, saw, bar, sprocket, wood, operator
2. cut videos are important and vastly more interesting than I knew
3. the 064 is the sexiest saw ever built
Data and cut times -
