Got a 661 coming from a tree service who they have complained about since day one. say its a dog. barely pulls a 32" fuggetabouta 36" in hardwoods. been getting slower and slower. Ive never been inside of an AT saw. no idea where the solenoid is hiding or if there is any tricks to R/R them

I hear solenoid swap and reset AT... ?
anybody got tips on either or both ?
and maybe a IPL/SM ?

of course they got a huge oak to drop TODAY and need to borrow a 066 to finish off the job..

Side note:
this is the same service I got to commit to 32:1 and have reduced top end jobs considerably.....but now they come back all blown to Firetrucking chit instead... :(

395 fixes the problem good.[emoji16]

I want to swap solenoid on my carb on mine. It acts funny from time to time. That or I'm going to put a WJ69 on it and forget about it

I'd make sure of the obvious first ..............

Air filter clogging up
Fuel filter clogging up
Carb gunking up (ethanol or dirt related)
Solder all wire connections between the carb, coil, and controll lever in the carb box. You cant tell by looking at them, you have to test with a multimeter or just solder everything

Most 661's that I've looked at has had their problems fixxed with one or two of the 4 steps above

Pull the plug and muffler ............ is she lean or fat ?

Pull the plug and muffler after you inspect the filters, if she looks lean I'd pull the carb next.

thanks Kev,
any PN's for the solenoid in case ?
any chance of running "rich" and not lean on plug check ?
they have hated this saw since day one and that's why im leaning solenoid. but it has been getting progressively worse.
im gonna go out and run the saw with them in a few and pick it up and see what gives.

If its rich, air filter clogged or solenoid

Check the spark arrester screen, I've not seen one clogged yet on a 661

Place lever directly from choke to off, do not touch the throttle
Place lever into run and start saw, let run for 60-90 seconds, do not touch throttle
Place lever directly from run to off, do not touch throttle

Jeez, it's easier to program a VCR without having any instructions!

How to solve issues with Your Stihl MS661CM?
Tie her to Your boat and buy a Dolmar PS-9000/9010! :p
