You guys are using foam cotton type filter oil on mesh nylon filters. Interesting sounds like a wash out is necessary when it needs cleaned.

Cool info here. I also concur that I've found the flocked, although it has a finer micron pore size and should filter fines better than the mesh, can get clogged quickly- if not just have poor air flow in general, and sucks a lot more air/fines in around the seam between the filter and the boot than the mesh do.

The yellow 44um mesh filters better than the black 80um, but in dry cutting conditions it does let fines through. I can't wait to try using my k&N spray oil on it to see how much better it gets!

The Orange mesh sounds very interesting - my first thought is that a) it will filter fines better than the yellow, but b) will have a higher air drag through it and will suck oil off the mesh faster than the yellow- requiring more frequent oil application than the yellow.

Does anyone know if the 25 micron filter is available for the 562? And even better if there is someone who wants to send one to Aus?

I have not removed it since my last post! I'll pop it out tonight to give an update. Thanks for the reminder!
So how is that orange filter holding up compared to what you were previously using Steve?

Sorry for the long delay.

This is using the orange mesh filter 522 67 54-07.

Lots of fines still getting through. Installed it as Husqvarna intended. I will clean it out and seal around the filter with grease and report back one I get cutting again.

I’m not sure if the flocked filter needs K&N oil. The K&N oil is for K&N filters, which are an open cell foam. The oil helps dirt particulate stick to the foam instead of just flowing through the holes, which are about 25um I think. The flocked filter is made of fibers and glue that lay down to form a tight weave mat, which I think has smaller hole size than open cell foam or mesh. Basically, I’ve never seen flocked filters pass fines, so the oil is redundant.

I’ve had multiple flocked filters pass fines through the media. Multiple saw brands too not just one manufacturer. They are made out of cotton like material which the k and n filters are made out of too. Learned the trick from reading a thread where guys in Australia cutting that real hard dusty wood were having problems that were solved by spraying the filter with k and n oil. It does not restrict the filter either, but it does stop up faster.

If there is dirt inside the filter itself, it is passing fines through media and it isn’t the filter neck that is the problem.

My 6421 passed fines through the flocked filter. My 372 does not pass fines through it's flocked filter. But they are different filter styles altogether. The orange filter for the 550xp supposed to be the tightest filter media. I'll crack it open tonight to see if the dust is in the filter or not.

The flocked will stop more particles than the mesh when oiled. You can’t oil the mesh because it won’t hold the oil as good.

I'll give it a try this weekend. Got some trees to cut...
