Good idea.
I have some high temp 3M reflective tape and I went and cleaned the cylinder side of that black plastic piece with acetone and put on the tape.

When you study the carb area it is a hot box why is that not ventilated?

Could you take out the gray decorative piece on the top cover and put in frog skins instead?

I have reset this saw and updated the firmware but i have not run it since...
Had the flu that kept me grounded, ran a top handle off the ground and a 359 on it... in a little bigger wood.
Some good ideas and thoughts on the root cause of the issue which i also believe to be heat soak..
i will report back once i have had time to run this saw again. i may also try a few things mentioned here, thanks gang.

This is the worst time of the year for this problem. Still alot of winter grade fuel, has a lower boiling point, in cans and at the pump. Coupled with warm to hot temps and hot engines you will have hot restart issues even on saws that normally are fine.

Could try some canned fuel and see if that helps. You may be on to something.

I posted this in the 550 top cover thread. I think the canned fuel helps.

My son cut this tree up today. He made sure to shut it off and let it sit 5 minutes half way through the tree. It restarted one pull on hi idle. He then shut it off every time he had to move brush. It started every time one pull on high idle. His saw is a 2016 model, at7 carb, has the redesigned cover.Running husky canned fuel. Temp today was 83°F.

Look at where the fuel supply line is routed on these too. Clipped in a position between the carb and air filter, I bet there is a lot of heat building there when shutdown. I'm thinking this is why it's recommended to purge before starting, hot or cold.

This coupled with the previous comments on Winter gas might give some clues towards a solution.

My saw doesn't have a problem yet, but if it did, I'd re-route the fuel line along the bottom of the carb and then up to the purge bulb.

Carb area, I think, is actually sealed somewhat and the cooling fins charge that area with spun filtered air. This is where Jonsered got the terminology 'Turbo' on their saws. The air box is pressure charged.
