Anyone having hot starting issues with these???
Mine runs awesome and i have never had any problems until the temps started climbing last week....
Once the mercury climbed over 80 and the humidity wasn't far off my beloved 550 began losing some of it's idol status in my line up!!
The tree service i have been working with purchased one from me a while back and have loved it until the same day last week!!!
Cool mornings no problems but once the sun and temps shoot up.... starting becomes a nightmare...
Am i missing something???
I loved the auto tune until i had to run them in some heat...

decomp makes no difference..
fast idle is the usual first attempt which will usually result in a short pop/rev followed by multiple pulls with only sweat and irritation...
switching to full choke setting will result in a healthy pop and die... back to fast idle for a decent rev then back to repeated pulls with no results other than sweat and frustration...
once you can get it to run long enough to feather the throttle enough to get it to rev out to WOT it will run fine till it's shut off again.
before last week I have been a "fair weather cutter"and have never had an issue...
wondering if anyone else has had similar issues / frustrations???

Set the high idle every warm start. Not the most convenient, but all of them I've been around start well this way. High idle and no choke......

It sounds like heat soak of the carb. In those conditions keeping the saw running is your best hope......even for refueling:eek:. Switch it off and let the heat soak the carb and she's outta action for 15-30mins. Pulling the starter won't help.

In the previous week I ran 3+ gallons thru it with no issues.
Temps were below 80...
Have no issues in the mornings.. once the temps are up late morning and afternoon.... hard startup returns.
I have tried with and without the purge bulb.
I really like these saws...
Sold one to the tree service 6 months ago or so and they have used it daily with no issues till the same day last week...
I just picked up another 550 at a local pawn shop yesterday bringing my total back up to 4...
I have two apart at the moment, one need a case half and tank (slowed the descent of a tree for the previous owner) and the other is getting some machine work...

Are all your fuel lines ok? Impulse line ok? Tank vent ok? Vacuum test when hot? We may be over thinking this.

The problem with vapor lock issues is there is 'nothing wrong' when you put it on a bench to diagnose the problem. Its an inherrant design issue rather than component failure. If we understand this with certain models, we can best manage how to use them without frustration. Having plenty of saws to use helps, on a hot humid day don't rely on one 5 series to do your work....have a backup.

Push the primer once or twice if it has been off for 10-20 minutes, start on idle. Works great for me.

The new cover is a piss poor factory attempt to address the heat issue, to be solved properly it needs more than a couple of holes drilled in the shroud. This is a band aid bolt on attempt that won't address the carb to crankcase heat relationship that is inherent in the 5 series design. Husky ain't stupid & will make changes to its new model. In the meantime many are left scratching their heads believing their expensive pro saw is broke'd:hollering:

I honestly wonder if you could use some reflective heat tape on the divider between the cylinder and carb. Last time I suggested this on AS I got told I was an idiot. Maybe I am but worth a try and I think could be just as effective as the hole in the new covers. Also has anyone tried popping the top cover off when they shut the saw off and see if that helps. Granted wouldn't be able to in a tree but on the ground. Granted it would be an inconvenience but if it prevents a heat soak and let's you start the saw back up that is less inconvenient then waiting 30 minutes.

Depend what 550 you have.
If you have one that is older then s/n 2014 43 00001, first you do is to remove the hose that is attached to the air filter, remember to blend the airfilter holder pipe.

Other then their tank vent modd Husky came with a new tank vent s/n 2016 35 00241, part number is # 501 15 29 01, according their IPL, tank ventilation improved regarding higher opening pressure.
