Hey was wondering if this was a common problem with this saw?

So saws not mine and I haven't looked at it yet (my brothers) but he said after his saw is warmed up he has to hold it wide open to get it started otherwise if he starts it and and goes WOT it will die but he can burp the throttle and get it to clean it.

So sounds like to me that fuel is pooling somewhere after the carb. I've never worked on a starto saw before and didn't know if this was a common problem on startos or this model?

The 460 is an auto tune saw (not that it has a thing to do with your problem). I would try just kitting the carb, new fuel line and filter. I had one here with a similar flooding issue not long ago and that fixed it (stiff diaphragm). If you clean the carb just hit it with some brake clean, maybe just a quick flush of the inlet screen, no high pressure air. Sometimes less is more.

Check needle and seat. see if carb holds 15 psi of popoff.

If it’s hot, the fuel pressure and overwhelm the needle and seat and floods the saw.

I don’t think it’s a strato thing.
ya that makes sense. Thanks
