Yes that is true, I prefer an empty can for other reasons. My personal belief is the muffler acts as a mini expansion chamber. 372, 390 don't have a divider and I feel the empty can does well on these saws. I might be full of ear wax on that subject but gotta believe in something right?
Oh for sure. But i'm a 90 10 guy. 90% of available result is fine with me if i only expend 10% effort in getting it, because the next 10% normally takes 90% more time and effort to achieve.

You can drill through the exhaust opening and grind as much as you want from there. That should help your front exit port. Here is a pic from mine before it was finished.

Then I would have to just figure out how to hammer the front cover bumps flat from inside with a flat chisel I guess

AM have the same partition wall that the OEM have. I used a tube and drilled and ground as much if the wall as I could from the back. Let me knownif you want to see inside pics.

I did mine the same way. 1/2 size drill bit if I remember correctly. Drill through the baffle plate as many times as possible from the back (cylinder) side of the muffler. Then I put a pipe in, but I dont have to run spark screens here.
