30 10 37 - felt most like stihl factory
20 20 40 - very smooth. gotta hand it to @junkman but at the same time I gotta wonder if 25 top plate wouldn't be even better! yes yes I know capt. perfectionist at your service.I'll have to beg @big t double to make one!
and here are some side by sides - 20 20 40 on the left, 35 15 40 middle , 30 10 37 right.
Actually the opposite ,it will last longer in my opinion ,the straiter across can get the top plate ,the longer it will stay sharp ,you get a stronger outer corner doing this ,this also smooths the chain out so not as jerky in the cut ,i mill with the same angles i run for cutting now ,because they hold up and make a smooth cut ,off the roll rsc bogs my 440 saw more than less aggressive angles do ,work and race chain are 2 different things ,how much work are you really getting done if have to swap chains every tank ?The square i am running is actually smoother than the 20-20-40 round ,and is more forgiving on a smaller saw ,i am running .404 with a 32 inch bar on a 440 hybrid and it zips around the bar just fine because of the angles i use .That 20 20 40 has got me really interested, I'm guessing that'd dull a little quicker with the top plate angle? I may give it a whirl, always interested to try other guys USG numbers
Edit: ignore me, got me numbers backwards!![]()
If go 25 on top plate it may cut a tad faster ,but will dull quicker than 20 will ,it is all compromise ,it will be grabbier also .30 10 37 - felt most like stihl factory
