BTW/FYI...For the time being...I want to stay cool with the seller. I need to see what’s up with the saw and talk to him some more. :) thanks.
No problem, I'll leave it be. At least I got him to say he didn't think it would even run with only 100# compression (like yours has!). I laughed out loud to myself when he said stock 2159 new only have 120# compression. Maybe you should ask him to trade your saw for the one that has 130#.

My advice is ditch that AM PC. Second thought you might try a set of Caber rings may or may not help. Oem 357 or 359 prices have come way down. Hyway or Meteor is good AM. Lots of sources for good AM. Ebay seller dandrikop has good AM stuff.

He as access to a machine shop. I think he should machine the base of the cylinder 0.045" and reassemble it with a new base gasket. That should get you about 0.025" squish. Unfortunately that changes port timing a whole lot. You would want to at least measure the intake and exhaust ceilings relative to the squish band to see if they are in the ball park. Maybe the whole cylinder is a dud.

If the ports are all farked up.....machining the base probably won’t help much

Honestly not trying to blow my own horn here, but maybe this will help?
I remember thst thread. OP is a little goofy, he did just an okay job putting it together.

No reason to believe they are, just has a ton of squish (0.050"). Seller said the top end was from "ahlborn". I did not ask if that was a typo. Never heard of them...
Don't you think he could reasonably determine if the ports are ok with a few linear measurements? Maybe they are ok and decking the base is all she needs?

Thanks for the help gents!
I had read the 359 thread, good stuff.
Trigger info is great.
Sharpened chain once, think it had been in wood just a little for testing. I think it's still too aggressive, will measure raker/cutters diff. Probably try another chain. Kinda thinking about going .325" , easier to pull and so I can share bars and chains with my 2050...?
Gotta focus on work, at least 'til lunch. Need to get figured out what I've got and what I need to order and get it coming.

Forgot: I wonder if piston and cyl are mismatched brands. Squish band is only part of the equation...

I was told by Ahlborn salesman their PC kits were Taiwan but that was several years ago. Have no idea what they are now. I did use a Dolmar 6400 BBK 5-6 yrs. ago from them that looked better than the NWP I still have. Saw is stout still. SIL couldn't kill it LOL.

Didn’t get real far at lunch. Wasted a bunch of time searching the internets and looking for my vac pump. Might as well give up and show my ignorance, maybe you guys will save me some time.

Where would you block intake, and connect vacuum/to test? How much vacuum should I pull? Little details people forgot in their how tos.

I ran it cover off in an attempt to determine which hose was what and noticed the decomp making noise a little when it first started. I messed with it manually and feels like maybe the spring is bad or something. Gonna try plugging that, maybe borrow the plug from my 2139.

Back at it after work, thanks!

I just checked out the first video and noticed your throttle rod is not pushing far enough. The saw is only making it to about 3/4 throttle because of it. The rod and or trigger needs replaced. Start with that and run it before you go any further because your compression tester is likely not very accurate. It may run just fine after the throttle problem is fixed.

Yep. Weird thing is while it’s running with cover off, if I pulled the trigger, I couldn’t get the carb lever to move any more like I could with it off. Bad thing is getting a throttle rod is gonna set me back days. Anyone have one laying around? Oh and also gotta get a metal clamp intake.

I still want to ditch decomp and vac test, etc. to make sure I don’t smoke this top end like probably happened to the last one.

I just tested my older 2139 the other day and got 150psi. Need to test other saws too.

Thanks!
