So I ordered an impulse line for my 084, the new lines is probably 8" long molded black rubber. When I tore my saw down the impulse line was molded black rubber but only until it passed through the handle then it had a barb and green tygon up to the carb. Stihl only shows the one line they sold me, problem is the new line won't reach the imulse port on the carb. Anybody know what I've got here?

Could you just reuse the green tygon and replace the molded hose with the one you have?

I need to go ahead and remove the old one. I didn't want to untill I knew what I had, but i imagine I can make something work regardless

I can't imagine Stihl using a two piece impulse line from the factory, but maybe they did idk. They used a two piece fuel line, so possible I guess. I'd be happier if the 084 would morph into a 3120xp lol. But I don't see that happening so i guess I'll fix it

The early tanks had a pass through barb and the impulse line is a two-piece. It's not documented very well in the IPLs. I believe there was an early service bulletin on it. I think I have both styles of tanks at home.

Sorry for delayed response, I went through the carb tonight it was a disaster. But I got a better look that the inpulse setup, it does have a plastic nipple built into the handle housing, I guessing there's a corresponding nipple on the cylinder side as well. So it is a legit two piece design

While I'm thinking about it, is the coil limited on the 084? Is it governed carb, bc I see the adjustment says 0 turns. But it don't like that 1 turn from seated is pig fat rich. If nothing else I'll set it pig fat rich in wood then start dialing it in untill it's full song underload then leave it be

They'd be real mad if they knew I had poulan green running through my veins first and foremost. I havent given up on the 084, it cuts like mad, just got to get the idle under control.

I used to cut with an 084, but nowadays loggers are switching from 880s to 661s for the lighter weight and almost the same cutting speed. The only saw that ever beat my stock 084 running .404 chain was a Husky 394 running skip tooth. We were bucking 32" cottonwood and he nipped me on both ends, but it was close. Later he told me he was also running mixed airplane fuel. Hmmm...

I run 100LL aviation fuel @32:1 with royal purple synthetic oil, in everyone of my saws. It works for me
