I’d pull the plug when it’s warm and see if it pulls over easily. Removes a lot of reasons for the lockup. If it locks with the plug out, it’s mechanical and needs a tear down.

Yes it does. Makes about 2 turns on warm pull. Turns free without the plug.
Feels like it is gaining compression when warm.

Why would you leave it in the corner? Might take you 10 minutes to find the issue. Pull the starter cover off and try to rotate the flywheel back and forth. Pull the muffler cover and look for scoring.

On the same thought ^^^^^.

Instead of pulling it over quickly remove the plug AND starter cover . Turn the flywheel by hand and note any binding/noises/roughness.
