Guess I was just confused b/c I assumed they would sell as one assembled part. I have tried putting new springs on worms before and they just spin on the worm without driving the pump... Just thought it was weird.

Then again his part system was showing $102 for a 036 piston. Just the piston and rings, no cylinder! I kinda had to laugh b/c the 6100 dolmar top ends are like $120-$130 for the entire top end not to mention Meteor piston kits are like $35.

Anyhow... yea...

I buy oem oiler parts and case gaskets for stihl. Huskies you can use all aftermarket and they fit fine.

'Spring' slips because the worm groove is worn or you put it on backwards.

Yes, backwards.

Study it a bit.
I'll double check that. The AM 066/660 worms seem to be pretty tight to the crank when spinning them by hand. I compared a new OE to a new AM back to back. I could probably use my split mandrel with some emery cloth to clean up/clearance the inside of an AM worm gear... These are just other observations i'm making for future readers...

Also curious if anyone has ever had a sheared off spring at the edge and just bent the spring to extend it? Does that work??? Just looking for others experiences...

Yes and yes, if there's enough left to get a 90° angle on the end of the tang.

Unlike you, I have four Stihl dealers in a four mile radius.
Jack Horner Machinery keeps the springs out behind the counter. Along with flippy caps, bar nuts, etc.

A tight worm gear bushing would tend to drive the chain at idle.

The aftermarket worms are not "ball sized" to the proper ID.
