I'm one of few where I live that still has 10 fingers.
Your in luck then ...best to keep it that way to !
I was at school at the time we adopted the Decimal system so feet and inch ...meters and mm + the money system all was in flux at the same time !

Is is lowering the jug really important or are we just chasing wider skirts for wider porting options?

064-85cc. 066-92cc. The 064 according to spec sheet is 1.3 lbs lighter IIRC.

Since that is a short case 066 the only difference is the cylinder, flywheel and starter cover. All the rest was the original 064 design so it shouldn't weight that much different. But they are a lot lighter than a 660 pig.

It's less than a pound.
I guess the most power to weight you can get is a 064/066 but it's just barely lighter

Timing was 104 124 73 with a 040 squish.
After I cut 080 or so off the base for the husky piston i had 104 124 73 with a 017 squish. In a 064 cylinder it's not as big a deal but it still helps timing plus the exhaust is 36mm wide and you can't get that with a oem piston.
If I cut 030 from the chamber and base and used a oem piston i would have to raise the exhaust more and the transfers a bunch.
Also it helps keep compression in check,I cut none from the chamber on the 064 and compression is 175 and it will almost run with the strongest saw I've ever ran.

There is a weight difference between early and late 064s also. It is not really significant for anything but bench racing but the early 064 used smaller dia fasteners, the mufflers were thinner metal, the plastic was thinner, etc etc. the very first 064 I had was an 84-85 model without the HD filter. The filtration was terrible but it was lighter. I wish I would have taken pics of the scale but it was barely heavier than an ms460. Was within about a tenth of a lb. iirc. The later 064s are much closer to a small crank 066. The oil pumps and right case half are different but it should be a negligible weight change. Much of the weight difference is probably flywheel and recoil. Some from the slightly larger piston and cylinder but all the subtle differences add up. The newer 066/660 definitely gained some weight on the crankshaft too.

Jason, 2 things: 1) The wrap handle on the 064 is heavier, so the real weight difference is greater, and 2) How can the timing #s not change after you cut the base? Is it cutting the base & piston swap??? Thanks.

The wrap handle is a couple ounces more
But nobody would notice a couple oz

Timing stayed the same because of a shorter crown height and a longer skirt.
I have done several but this is the first time it happened that way.
I measured to get the ring out of the intake and got lucky on the timing part.

If you want to get down to the nut cuttin on weight the 064 dog leg coil is heavier than the 1300 coil on the 066 maybe heavy enough to cancel the difference in flywheel weight. I'll find out in a minute.

Also the 066 is dirty and the 064 is completely clean,I built it yesterday from the crankshaft out. 066 has a dp cover.
066 has a intella carb the 064 does not.
A wj69 will be heavier than a wj35

You have me curious. I'll find a accurate scale tomorrow and measure my non HD 064 against my 460.
