064/066 ID

[Sleeper]

Hello, since I am not a Stihl guru, how do I tell the 064 apart from the 066?

I think there was a thread on it, but can't find it.

I usually look at the numbers on the side.........

Off the top my head for a quick ID. I know the starter covers are different and the mufflers are different. Sorry I don't have pictures.

First pis is 066,second 064,third is both . They are different heights.

The flywheel sticks out further on an 066 and MS660 so the recoil cover is thicker or deeper depending on how you look at it.

Measure the bore of the cylinder to be sure. 064 is 52mm, 066 is 54mm.
The first thing you look for at a glance is the thinner recoil cover with the stripes shown in pic, and no decompression valve on top of the cylinder.

Oil pump line is external on 064 and internal on 066, I have came across cases with just a crank, sometimes that is the only way I can tell.

I don't think there is a decomp on the saw I was looking at. It also was a flat top, and has an inboard clutch, so didn't get to see if the oil line was external or not.

I will take a closer look at it today or next week.

Some of the older 066's didnt have a decomp. Either. Cylinder holes on an 064 are 5mm and 6mm on an 066. Might be an easier way to tell between the 2 if you dont pull the clutch...

That's correct.

Red Light 066s don't have decomps.
