When you are a large manufacturing company and going to use 50,000 bearings, you can get them in a special configuration.

I only have one seal left myself and one of my 048's needs a seal .Actually it's been several years since I've even started the two 048's or the one running 042 I own .It would not surprise me if by now the carbs won't need rebuilt .

I’ve seen a few bearings for certain things that are no longer available or the transmission of a John Deere 185 (example) has a throw away transmission so there are no parts for that.

I went to a bearing supplier and got the closest sized bearing they have for the hydrostatic pump drive on top of the multiple pistons.

I got the bearing set, took it to a machine shop, they surface ground it down to thickness it should be at, and I put it in. It fits.

10 years later, that lawnmower is still mowing grass.

You can get "creative " replacing so called no longer available parts but you have to able to think outside the box so to speak .I won't boar with details but I've done so on many occasions .
One I just recently became aware of is using crankcase seals from a Stihl 024/-026 on a Stihl 020/Ms 200T .I've never tried but if in fact it works those would be a better choice than the original seals which I never thought much of .IMO it was or is the failures of those OEM seals have killed more of the little darlins than anything else except straight gasoline . Straight gas is almost instant ,seals just take longer .

I like thinking outside the box at times.

That’s one reason I built the dyno instead of piles of cut wood that gets shredded and makes a mess.

I re did mine years ago which I believe @Uzi has this thing would not run for crap I determined it to be ignition related. If it has to be changed to the new style a new crank and bearings are needed. I MIGHT have the old crank parts from mine around somewhere for the SEM ignition. I believe I sent quite a few of my old parts with it to its new owner after the raffle choices.

As general info one 048 SEM coil was a self advancing type .according to the book .I had one fail with no advance and it would not rev up .On another web forum a guy had a coil he didn't know what it was and I identified it .He put it on flea bay and I bought it for 5 bucks and that cured the problem .Of the three, two 048's and one running 042 ,it and one 048 use SEM .The other uses I think a Bosc system .I'm not certain if the Bosc is a self advancing type or not because the book only covered SEM .

I got my parts lists out and found some interesting stuff .From what I see between the two models are 4 different flywheel numbers .Evidently at one time the 048 was made with a points system and or a solid state trigger unit on the Bosch coil .I would think that said a points system would have a cam slot in the crankshaft for the points .I have not verified if that being the case if the mounting for the points is on any of those I own although I have seen evidence on other models they did exist at one time in the castings .
Plus one flywheel set up showed a generator evidently for heated handle bars .If you can mix and match these systems I cannot answer for certain .
Regarding the points system ,it would make sense it could not be a self advancing system .With the trigger unit it may be depending on the "thresh hold " voltage of the unit .Nothing I've found so far specifies one way or another .
