Do you think this cylinder is usable?
The clips were missing and the pin slid over and locked up the saw. There's a little transfer on the exhaust side that catches a nail and the dent in the lower transfer port. IMG_20210103_142244560_HDR.jpg IMG_20210103_142259208.jpg

Good luck on the honing. It is going to need lots of it. I ran into this recently with an MS 261c-m but with no missing clips. A new piston and ring kit got the engine running again, but usually I would have replaced the jug also.

Missing the circlips usually means that there is lots of cylinder damage as they bounce around inside the combustion chamber. So, to hang onto this cylinder means you are gambling to say the least. That's MHO.

I'm not out anything on it but if it was usable I was going to try to piece the saw back together. 10mm(I think)cylinder and just wanted to see what all the hype was about basically. Cases have some rot around the oiler.

You mean rot on the bar nuts in the case between where the plate sits? If so .. I had the same problem I tried to help fix it by addition of Rtv gasket stuff to help fill the pitting and mating sides behind the bar plate to allow the flow of oil to the bar..rather than it to piss early where else...ie not less but more on the bar..

as to your cylinder.... it’s hard to see for me.it seems a lot of transfer ...I’d say one step at a time.. follow the master mind way ..of removing cylinder transfer.. and hopefully you will be on your way.. sometimes a newbie can’t see the scores and has to learn the hard way.

Yes sometimes we have to learn the hard way. Ive done it. As will a lot of others.

the main thing is to be honest (even thou we (most) don’t want to) to post pics to help others in the future as to maybe what will maybe work or not.

I’m not sure your cylinder will work :(. As I said there’s a lot of transfer.. but I’d like to be proved wrong.;)

that’s my view ... hopefully I’m wrong o_O

Transfers don’t really look touched, but the intake looks wide, and so does the exhaust. Nice straight lines on the verts of exhaust port too. Those are usually more rounded.
And the tiny perfect bevel on the exhaust. Usually it’s a big 45° cave in

I'll take some pics of my factory KS 10mm 044 cylinder in the morning. It exhibits all those features you mention above.:)

I could be wrong, just was asking.
Keith, here's my stock KS 10mm 044 jug. No wonder they were known as 'factory ported' Beautiful port shape and size, almost flat exhaust roof with very sharp bevels:

Usually just put an 046 jug on instead.

I’d imagine if you were to bore to 046 size piston you’d have smaller than desired transfer ports. Unless the 046 has the same size transfer port but I always would have guessed they’re bigger being you have to grind outside to clearance the flywheel whee putting a 046 on and 044 case.

But @Rogee is talkin 10mm 044. We have to change the crank to a 12mm pin for the 46 cylinder

then it gets to the starting to be expensive way unless you happen to have the parts laying around.
I’ve been looking but it’s not worth it

and as Lehman says your transfers would be a bit small if you were to bore a 10mm out

If your cylinder is junk I believe I have 2 10mm 044 cylinders that would clean up.
