I can now get OEM cheaper than meteor so I'm happy to use the right tool for the job.
I'm not saying the OEM isn't a better choice which I think it is, but the price comparison isn't apples to apples is it?
Picking up a piston at a discount from a dealer who you have a great relationship with and ordering online and paying shipping and fees don't make that a fair comparison in my head.

I need a damn head-shrinker I am starting an argument with a guy I like over something I don't give a *s-word about.
carry on

Even at retail prices, both are about the same Dave.

Found this slop in a few different saws running the old HyWay pistons before they were updated some years back. Rebuilt one that had that Meteor piston and you lose 1/3 of the bearing surface contact area with that set up. I'd bet it's fine in a stock saw tuned correctly. This saw must have done a lot of felling because the edge of the bearing cage was sharp as a razor on the pto side. The piston had excessive wear on the inner boss area of the pin wall. The Meteor piston was wore out when removed. The HyWay had the same play as the Meteor.
It's definitely a manufactures attempt to use a universal piston in 10 or 12mm.

Has anyone checked this on other pistons like the newer HyWay or other brands?

I think Brian is referring to the ring locator pins, and I think he is correct.

I suppose someone will be determined enough to hack up the bosses on a blown 10mm piston to use as shims to keep the rod centered when using the meteor.

Would it be safe to say the 15mm is only for the 12mm pin. Therefore a 10mm piston can't go on a 12mm rod cause the bearing would be loose by a 1mm.?
