ported 357xp is my pick in 60cc saws- I have owned a slew of ported 60cc saws- 357, 2 diff 359s, 562xpw, 7 or 8 262xps. The 262 to have is the KS cylinder with 87 carb. Yes there is a noticeable difference in performance between them. I have always wanted to try a 361, but with the 462 coming (and disclosed specs/weight) Im gonna hold out for it instead. Huge bump in power for just a little weight over the 60cc saws.

I have more Stihl's than Hooskies (probably more of a Stihl guy:nusenuse:) but the 5 series saws are some of the best performing saws ever made. The 036/360 are tuff good saws with a solid reputation but they are an old design and not near a 562xp in handling or performance. I say get a small mount 555 low top in all orange and be different....that's what I did. The 562xp set a benchmark for 60cc pro saws that has been hard to beat since its release years ago.

Mason, your 562 looks real good, way better that it did when it was bone stock.

Funny how the ported 262 and 036s get so much respect, and how my ported 362 will run right with them but gets no respect. Very frustrating, but I like the saw a lot, and I'm keeping it, and if you want to bring your 60 cc saw to the GTG, I'll be there.

I think I'll just name my 362 "Rodney"!!!

Cant beat a ms 361 or a ported 036 parts are easily available for 036 oem new and used .361 has spring vibe like 562 quad port transfers with a muff mod timing advance and base delete both models really wake up. I can honestly say ive never ran a 562. Its pretty tough to beat a 361 stock
A had a 361 as well. 562 is better than it too in all areas. However, id take a 361 over a 036/360.

Hate a 362 a 361 will stomp. A mudhole and walk it dry

You musta had a bad 362...I think they make more torque than a 361, they just aren't as snappy and "free" feeling.

I have 4-361's, I like them as much as anybody.

Stomp a mudhole ? .. thats a stretch.

The op asked about an 036 pro and 562. Those were his choices, out of the two in would have chosen the 562 because: it oils more, will carry a bigger bar better, has auto tune so you don't need to fiddle with it.

It's a more modern design, makes more power, is more responsive and has great parts availability because it is newer (not that the 036 doesnt, stihl dealers in my area are dying...)

Shall we discuss air filters? lol
I bought a 562 without ever trying one in wood. It was very impressive right away. My new Stihl saws were all very doggy when new, and noticably stronger after break in. Unless you are thinking of a ported 036, you need not worry about missing any wow factor. I sold the 562 to a good friend. I just couldn't look at the damn thing (fuggly). I am so Old School it isn't even funny!
I think the 036 cult, the whole Stihl cult really, is about toughness and dependability, not chain speed and crisp handling. I'm with Steven 357 FTW, but that's not in the mix. Also, none of my ported saws, Stihl or Husky, are disappointing to cut wood with. In fact, I love them all equally!

I think what some posters are missing is that we are all different, and therefore, will not all necessarily go for the same saw.

I can run the same size saws with rubber/spring AV, back to back, and it makes no difference to me. Others go ga ga for one or the other. Ditto inside/outside clutch, just move you left hand to the right about 1/2" ... jeesh!

I happen to be a bit heavy handed, so I prefer torque over speed. That will result in me having different preferences than others. It's OK, it is what makes the world go round.

If you like your saw, and it gets the job done for you, that is all that matters.

For milling, I will generally choose rubber mounts over spring, but I have done it with both w/o problems. But I have concluded that larger saws are generally preferable for milling.

That`s the issue. I ran a ported 036 and REALLY like it but my 562 is yet to fail me. It starts every time and does what I need it to do!
