362 regardless of weight is a fuggin pooch. 562 for the win.
Agree. Never been impressed with one. I’d like to see a 362/036 pull AND oil a 28” bar stock like the 562 can just fine.

If stock between the two choices 562, if ported, I have to give the nod to the 036. @drf256 ports one MEAN 036, and knows how to mod the oiler so it will oil a 28" bar with authority.
But will it "pull" a 28" with authority?

I'd venture that in soft wood my mofo 036 would assert considerable authority with a 28". It'd be very usable in hardwood also, but I think it'd need the oiler mod.

It's a bit of a moot point in my opinion, just because if I need a saw with a 28" bar, a 60cc (no matter which) isn't gonna be my go to. My 036 is very impressive and fun to run, but being a compact little power house, I like a short bar for limbing and bucking hardwood while grinning ear to ear.

I have some big ash that I'll be cutting in the coming weeks. I'll the take my 28" bar off my 7900 and give it a whirl on the 036. I've got full comp, and semi skip RS and full skip Oregon full skip. Any suggestions?

The 362rcm NE is lighter than the 562 with the same bar. That’s with 3/4 wrap and wide clutch cover.

Do you have a picture of the version 2 west coast cover ?, I haven't seen that yet...the guy I buy from said all the R models he can order are still the old style.

Stihl didn’t make an updated light weight wide clutch cover like the standard ones (as far as I know). In MN you don’t run into many dealers selling R models. Also not that many dealers really know everything that’s going on with Stihl. I’ve yet to talk to a dealer that knows about the 462, about 4 or 5 I’ve asked at.

I’m debating getting a standard cover to see what the weight difference is.

Waited to chime in because I have not ran a 036 but I have a fair amount of experience with the 562xp and I can tell you the newest version 562 is an excellent saw stock and outstanding once properly ported. I really like the controls, balance, handling and overall layout of the 562 its a great saw for most jobs very versatile. probably 90% of what I do gets done with a 562xp wearing a 20" bar. Mine currently is a mastermind worksaws ported saw and it is very impressive 2nd one of these actually I sold the first one I am getting a 3rd one done with mastermind now so I will have 2 of them as it is my main saw.

Agree. Never been impressed with one.

Now why would someone run a saw over, and over, and over (etc) so many times against other ported 60 cc saws if it was completely unimpressive in the first place?

I lost count of how many rounds you and your Dad made with that saw that day.

When I grab a stinker, I usually don't cut with it more than once.

Makes no sense to me. Guess you were just trying to figure out how bad it was.

I think so yes. :)

Is a 28" my preferred choice for a 60cc saw? NO, my MOFO 034S wears a 20" Sugi, I was just stating that I think the 036 is a better saw ported than a 562.
Nice Joe!

Readily 4-strokes after that long cut. :)

Sorry, I don't have much of anything to contribute to the OP's question. Just needed to give props to Joe on that. Carry on fellers!

I don’t think it’s a BAD saw. I just prefer other ones. I’m more impressed with a 036 than a 362. I try to run a saw as much as I to get a good impression. Just voicing my opinion, just as you are.

If I don't like a saw I run the balls out of it to see if I'm missing something before I have an opinion...idk.
