036 clutch drum

I've got a later model 036 with a spur drive clutch drum. I would like to upgrade the clutch drum to a ms360 rim drive. I'm pretty sure all I need is the ms360 bearing and the ms360 clutch drum.

Can anyone confirm?
Any other parts required to do this?

I hope you are correct. I did not check it yet, but I'm planning to do a similar swap on my 029/390. If I get to check it soon, I'll let you know (I have a 460 drum & bearing).

Yep. Oregon sells a kit for it. About $25 should do it with S&H. In the long run, rims are the way to go.

A year or so, I did run into one that a guy needed me to repair. The operator had cut the rim in half, cut the spline in half, was slicing into the needle bearing, and almost working on the drive shaft before he decided to have it fixed. Seems like it should have been making some noise. Hmm...

If you run 3/8 chain you can opt for the upgrade with the big bearing. I haven't had a small bearing fail but have seen a few. The upgrade let me run the same rims as my larger saws.

I had a guy bring me a 290 that wore through the spur. Thankfully he took the drive links off of both his chains instead of hurting the crank.


I've never seen chains with the drivers worn off.

Stihl has the larger 16mm bearing set up in a kit. I think it's part number 1125-007-1041 Double check though. It includes the larger bearing, clutch drum, spacer, c-clip, and a .375 7T rim.

I didn't want to take any chances with Als saw.
