Ok folks here goes. Craigslist find #1 of the week a beat up ol' red lever 034 super. Guy wanted $250 but I walked away with it for $120 after pointing out some issues he wasn't aware of Like the scoring on the piston, cylinder's in good shape though. I conveniently had a 034 with a fried top end of a friends I was planning on rebuilding so this one may become a parts donor depending on how much love it needs. The guy I got it from put a new carb on it which brings me to my question. The carb is mostly the same, but different on the bottom and seems like it may be keeping the air filter from seating properly? Did they change the design of the car for some reason? Original carb came with it so I have parts or can just get a rebuild kit for it if need be. Haven't had a chance to dig into it beyond giving it a thorough air compressor bath in all the nooks and crannies which is when I noticed the issue along with a couple others. After setting the carb screws at one turn out each like it says right next to them it did fire up and hold an idle while spraying starting fluid at potential leak areas as a quick and simple test till I have time to dig in further. Thanks for any insight y'all may have. IMG_3619 copy.JPG IMG_3624 copy.JPG IMG_3626 copy.JPG

Gotcha. I have a good filter from the fried 034 regular. Should I change the bottom so the filter mounts properly or is the pro filter better and and something that should be invested in?

Gotcha. I'll wait to see if somebody who knows for sure chimes in before I go ordering parts that may not work. Thanks.

You should be able to change the bottom cover to the one you need. The one with the square opening is for a newer model I believe and draws air through/from the filter. I think that's a compensation item Stihl came up with for when the filter gets dirty. The older style just draws/vents from the carb area...not really a lot of difference other than keeping the saw dust/chip debris out of the diaphragm area.
The diaphragm covers should interchange and solve you clearance issues.
