Figured I’d do a thread on an 034S rebuild and port. One of my favorite models of saws ever produced.

The ports are works of art IMHO, but there can be some slight performance improvements. It happens to be the best stock 1125 jug that exists in my opinion.

I do not believe that the Super 48mm bore version of the 034 was ever produced in the USA. Their cases are unique with a side adjust bar tensioner, but M4 starter bolts. 034 standards are usually front adjust, though I have seen a few that were side adjust.

The oil pump is the highest stock output in its class. Unlike the quarter turn adjust oil pumps in most Stihl saws, this pump has a pan head adjustment screw that uses the saw case as its stop. The more you turn it counterclockwise, the more output.

Adding new bearings, seals and gaskets to this build. The ones in it were likely redone, as they were pretty good upon disassembly. With the work involved in a case split and clean, I like to swap them out to new.

PTO bearing is OEM, and the fly side is Nachi. I have actually had a few SKF 6202 bearings fail, so I try to stick with Nachi now.

The sealed Nachi’s are cheaper than the unsealed ones in general. I pulled the seals out easily with a dental tool.

The 034 super has a machined crank vs the as forged 036 crank. I like to put it through the USC and inspect the bearing. I actually had a bad 036 crank one time that ate up a few OEM pistons till I realized what had occurred.

It’s similar to the 10 vs 12mm 1128 cranks. The bottom of the rod is machined on the 034S. So are the crank lobes.

That’s it for now. More coming as I find time.

It’s still shocking to me how durable and reliable these old Stihl models were. As much as I will always pick an MT saw over a manual tune saw these days, their durability remains to be decided. This saw is 45-50 years old and will go many more years without an issue.

Reuse if not cracked. I’ve got PLENTY of parts here if you are in need.
Thank you. Mine are good, and I've re-used in the past if they weren't beat up. I just wondered what you do since you've done a number of these. It's been at least five years since I've re-built an 1125.

I had a local guy looking to buy a good used saw. I offered him a 034S for 325.00 PHO, or 400.00 for it with a new 20" Stihl bar, and a new RS chain. He thought it was too much.....

Great to see you doing threads again bud, how are things?

The one you did for me is a favorite. It always feels like a ported 70cc saw instead of a ported 60cc.

You aint wrong…never understood the love for those things.
It’s all in the advertising - Farm Boss was good marketing on Stihl’s part. It’s reputation grew bigger than the saw could live up to, and it got people in the door to upsell.
