It might be time to double check the cylinder base so you can reinforce the gasket seal and re-torque it down. I like to smear a thin layer of permatex grey on both sides of gaskets and let dry for fifteen minutes before joining the parts together.
If I use a homemade paper gasket then I soak it in red loctite until it is saturated all the way through.

I recently had a 034 doing something similar to what your describing. I cleaned the air filter and the problem went away.

I had a few minutes to spare during my lunch break.

-I removed the air filter - no change
-Removed the tank vent breather tube- no change
- I removed the one way check valve for the tank vent - no change.
-pulled the fuel filter off and ran it without. - it didn't starve for fuel

So now this evening I'm going to track down another fuel filter and see if we're finally good to go.

The weird thing was the filter that was on it was brand new.

Was it OEM?

Doubtful, I got it from my Stihl dealer but it's not the standard style. The suspect one was an orange and black filter with a screen element. At first glance it looked like it should flow a lot.
I'm going to swap with a regular Stihl fuel filter and give it another go.

I'm familiar with those orange filters. Was the foam/sponge inside the filter removed? That thing is supposed to prevent air bubbles from making it up the fuel line. Sometimes I feel the thing is packed in there too tight so I like to cut that foam inside the filter in half so it allows easier flow while still functioning properly.
I'll also add a little plug of lead to make it heavier.
