If a 79 cc saw is a 70 cc saw (comparable to a 440 or 372), then a 362 (59cc) is a 50 cc saw, but everyone knows they are 60 cc saws!

My point being people handle it one way for one saw, and another way for another saw.

I view them as being in the next size up, 046/460/461/7900/7910 all similar in size, weight and power.

A ported 046/460 will have a good deal more grunt than a 044/440, although cut speed may be very close if you are careful with the 044/440.

A 362 is in the 3.5 cube class hence the 60cc grouping.

What other current saw does Stihl have in their pro line as a 60cc saw?
Which saw & what displacement did it replace?

A 460/7900 is in the 4 cube class & in the 70cc class, hence the 70cc.

It really is that simple: whomever wants to muddy it up is just not willing to accept reality.

My MMWS 362 runs real well. Yes, I have seen stronger ported 562s, but everyone also raves about the ported 262s, and my 362 will generally run right with them. It also has spring AV and M Tronic, so it is real user friendly. It's OK if you don't like em, cause I'm keeping it anyway!

Race saw categories vs wood saws. I would not expect my 044 to be as strong as my ported 460, but more like a ported 7900/7910.

If I need to do a lot of limbing with the bucking, I'll PU the 044 every time, but just bucking, the larger saws are stronger.

The race classes were determined by the Classes of saws put out by the manufacturer: not the other way around.

I can’t tell any real difference between a 44 or 46.

Well my new favorite 70 cc showed up today finally! Was very worried when my wife said your box is leaking oil on my floor! And be careful there metal sticking out of the box in three places! Well the oil tank was full and the bar end and both dogs were sticking through the box. Very poor packing job. Guess I should have expected it they guy was a real jerk! Good thing is the saw is nice! Quite dirty but will clean up very well! Going to meet up with @Glock37 in the morning and run her a little!

They were done on cubic inch from way back when Mac, Homelite, and Poulan put out stuff on the 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 Cubic Inch

Well after previously owning over 100 pro saws and running over a thousand customers saws, my favorite saws is still the 038mag II. I built one a few years ago with gutted muffler, chokeless bing with k&n velocity stack, pain to cold start lol, deleted base gasket and running 1 top ring on the piston, no cylinder porting done. It ran neck and neck with a dual port ms440, and real close to a stock ms460..... but super durable. Only drawback was the ring had to be replaced more often. I had it set at 13,800.... four stroking real good
