That’s a very nice little saw. I have a couple of those, and I just drilled the spotwelds with the drill press until I was almost through the plate that holds the cat. After that you can just pry that whole piece out pretty easily. No need for welding.Got my dads little dolmar on the bench. I havnt started it since he passed away three years ago. It fired right up like it was ran yesterday. Made a couple cuts and sure did being back some good memories.
He would be shaking his head though. I started to open up the muffler to let it breath. Lol
The baffle i got out but was thinking about drilling out the plate that holds it to the outer case. Then i could blow out better and make sure no little chips. Would just have to do a little spot weld to seal up the little hole from drilling. What do you guys all think. Drill out or leave in.
I will probly put a small pipe out muffler too.

I got it out without going through. Never thought about using the drill press for it. May have been a little easyer. Cant wait to get home from work to try it out and retune it. Nachi's are good or SKF. Just make sure they're C3. Don't remember where I got the gasket/seal kit for the one I rebuilt a few months ago...either eBay or hl supply.Working on a “resto-mod” 041 FB. Plans; 041 FB with rigid frame, super cylinder, Cross Performance 48mm piston, caber rings, new points and condenser, new wiring, new gaskets and seals, going to attempt to build a better flowing exhaust pipe to the muffler (I have 2 mufflers, so going to play with doing some fabricating). Plan on rebuilding the oil pump and installing new o-rings. Talking with a local shop to powder coat everything as they are less than a mile from my house.
Question is this: what are the best crank bearings to put in it for longevity? I see they are 6002 and 6202, but there are about 10,000 variants of each bearing. Recommendations on quality crank seals? I found a new old stock gasket set.
