Ms250 i believe. Can u use steel wool?
Scotch brite is better, no metal particles to worry about, the rust you should be worried about is in the bearings or bearing surfaces, nobody wants to see rust, but a little surface rust won’t kill you...if you get deep pitted rust it could become a week point and fail. No matter what you do make sure to wash out the rod bearing and blow it out, then oil it back up! What is the intended use? I saw it for you or a customer?

You can usually get scotch brite at a hardware store

Good to know. I only ask that because I have it. Scotch-Brite is more that plastic/fiber type stuff isnt it? Can u get that at menards?

Probably they will have at Menards.

You can always get at the grocery store, too. In the dish washing aisle, next to the sponges. Green is the most common grit:

3M Scotch Brite Nylon Pads:
7445 - White pad, called Light Duty Cleansing - (1000) 1200-1500 grit
7448 - Light Grey, called Ultra Fine Hand - (600-800) 800 grit.
6448 - Green (?), called Light Duty Hand Pad - (600) 600 grit
7447 - Maroon pad, called General Purpose Hand - (320-400) 320 grit
6444 - Brown pad, called Extra Duty Hand - (280-320) 240 grit
7446 - Dark Grey pad, called Blending Pad (180-220) 150 grit
7440 - Tan pad, called Heavy Duty Hand Pad - (120-150) 60(?)
Green Scotch Brite is available EVERYWHERE. It's 600 grit.
Blue Scotch-Brite is considered to be about 1000 grit.

Just off my bench, bought it with no spark. The bad component tested good. Spent a lot of time awaiting parts off the bay.
1984 about 5000 miles on it. You cant test the CDI box makes for interesting fixing.
6001.jpg 6002.jpg Now have a 266 on the bench that is high revving, like a massive air leak.

The least I would do is complain about the rust to the supplier! You can also see if they will send you another one, brand new parts shouldn’t have rust! I don’t think it will be an issue, but it never hurts to ask!

I had a few of those
Had to extend the swingarm
They are flippy
Run good those and my xt 600
Were the fastest 4 strokes
The kx500s were damn fast

I had an issue like that with a part I got from Chainsawr. It was in the wrong box and appeared to have been water soaked at some point. They sent me a replacement and I didn't have to return the old part.

Not saying that will always happen, but worth a shot. Most people want to stand behind their product's quality.

Exactly! The suppliers want happy customers! And if they don’t...might want to keep track and not buy from them again! If it’s a big enough problem for the company they will fix it and that is better for everyone!

Ended up being the pickup coil, tested good.

How do you extend the swing arm and how much??
A talented friend of mine cut and sleeved
The inside of the swing arm on each side
And drilled locating holes
Every 2 inches if i recall right
4 inches was what i added.

The shinny's were good wackers.
Yea this one has seen better days but with a new carb kit she'll be able to keep him busy for a while. Lol. Like another ten years if he does a better job on maintaining it as I poled the muffler deflector the screen was plugged big time.
