You need a 260 AF cover for the back end and a modified tank vent on some models.

Plug comp hole with an ear plug.
What is the usual tank vent used to enable the use of the 260 filter? The crappy thing is I just bought the tall black vents that were missing on two of these tanks...

You have to cut the tall vent at an angle and melt it closed. I'll try to get u a pic.

Do you have to put the screw back in the top of the tall vent?

I would definitely like to see that mod

The 260 vents do not work way to big.

I ordered an 034 tank vent from my dealer I can look up the part number when I get back

I know it is a 1121 #

It is hard to tell from the pic, but does it have the screw on the backside still? Does it leak fuel at all?

It does not leak fuel.

It's @Basher work. I own one of his ported 026's. Runs great. We have different styles of attacking this saw.

I haven't personally tried it yet. I like the look of the 026 rear (she's got a great ass) and the 026 metal filter flows more than the 260's unmodified. It's just pricey and tough to find.

Myself and @huskihl have modified the 260 filter for metal mesh. Comes out a bit fugly but it's not so hard to do.

Got in late last night. Checked the clutch visually and it looks to be in vgc. I will replace the impulse line probably tonight.

I know they had several different designs of vents and few were interchangeable. I have one here with the cone. I will try to check it out and make sure it can be swapped. I am just trying to make these 5 026's share as many parts as possible for ease of maintenance by the owner.

Pictures are worth a thousand words. Post a pic of the drum/spur, bar, and chain.

At work, but the spur is FUBAR. New spurs have been ordered for all 5 saws.

Oh I thought they looked great. You can run .325 , 3/8, or 3/8 Picco drums/spur on a 026. I have seen a lot of these saws running a .325 spur and 3/8 LP Picco chain. It doesn't work well. You can piss rev the snot out of it and it runs fine but it bogs down in the cut. It actually starts binding the saw and feels like the chain brake is on. Everything might be "new" but if they chain/bar/spur are not the same you will have issues.

Clutch looked great. The .325 spurs have been subjected to 3/8 chain, so they look pretty rough. That may well be the problem. It will get the new impulse line and fuel line regardless, along with the new spur. Then I will give it another whirl. It has a Tillotson HU carb on it that I just rebuilt thinking it could be the culprit.

I have done more than ten tank vents that way and they don`t leak, the top screw is just a means to allow air to pass across the top of the vent connecting the two passages in the vent. It works as one passage up on the front and one passage down to the tank on the back. The top screw can be eliminated and not cause any issues. The cone shaped vent covers will not fit every 026 tank, the ones that come with the tall black vent has a smaller diameter shoulder and the cap will not be a press on fit.

I like it, is there a method? Or just cut it and burn it? I see the angle in Al's pic
Guessing just to clear the 260 filter

So... What is the hack to fit 026 old AF covers on the 260 filters?

Great info appreciated Basher!
