OK. I get mixed up between Ash and Hickory. I cut a small Hickory a while ago. About a 12" diameter tree. I couldn't split much of it without multiple swings with my Fiskars X27.
I finally gave up and noodled all of it. The grains held on like steel cables. Lol
But it was clear white wood throughout.
Right it has a stringy grain. Much harder to tell from a pic on the internet if I was there I could tell easily, a Hickory twig will bend like rubber where an Ash twig will snap easy. You could burn it with a lighter and smell Hickory it smells nutty and good like smoked meat .

Im thinking Ash as well. The two photos with just one tree in them are 100% oaks. The bark is different. The picture with two trees in it has the same exact kind of tree in question (on the right) beside a for sure oak (on the left).

First one is rock oak or chestnut oak whatever you want to call it. It's in the white oak family. The rest are dead ash.

Thanks guys. The oak is dead and doesn’t even have much of a top on it. The other pictures are of two ash trees but at different angles just in case it would be helpful. I have 6 or 7 desd ash just around the house im going to worm on getting down and cut up now.
