Pretty wood sometimes leaves an ugly chain behind.

I took down a fair sized dead ash yesterday. There were two very visible pieces of 1" ready rod showing between some of the branches intended to hold the tree together. They worked.

What we couldn't see were the additional pieces of 1" ready rod that had been completely overgrown without a trace evident from the outside.

I used my Dolmar 7900 metal detector to make certain there was an object inside this log....twice.

Another fellow cutting with his 362 found the other, his chain was much worse that either of mine after the incident.

He definitely gets an A for effort, beyond that...
What's up Rob.
Funny thing, he's quite the auto tech, can do anything you throw at him and crazy particular. Now if you bring him a snowblower a lawnmower or a quad, ask him to do any construction, he's quite lost.
It takes lots of types to make the world go round.

Oregon Vanguard loop went straight trough

Skidded firewood logs are nasty, dealing with them for over two decades made me dull to the inconveniences they cause.
No skid steer or tractor with grapple to move the logs, I just buck them as they lay.

One time I cut straight through a big ole piece of angle iron in a oak log with a 390xp. It slowed a bit mid cut and when the log rolled free I was like WTF lol. I’ve learned since then when there is “blue” staining in wood... there is metal somewhere in the tree.
