If you file 2 mm off the gaps they should be fine .

I just tried this on some rings that were in my NOS 166 and it didn't work. I must have ran a file through the gaps for 20 minutes and every time I measured they were the same. I was thinking something wasn't right, so I called Caber and after they got done laughing they told me that filing the gaps is the completely wrong way to do this. Evidently, you have to file the rings, not the gaps. After their chief engineer explained it to me a few times I think I'm understanding where I went wrong.
