The 5.3 cubic inch,87 cc engine is my favorite of all the big McCulloch reed valve engines .That one they got right .
There is a trick however on the 80 cc units like a 250 .If you can find a .050 groove bar and run 3/8" chisel with an 8 tooth it will cut a lot faster than with .404 .Surprising with that set up it takes 72 drivers on a NOS 18" Mac bar .I chanced upon one still in the cardboard wrapper . NOS Oregon probably 50 years old .

Be nice to use this.

Was wondering if you ever found a solution for yours.

You're on your own for the right bushing..., which is probably why you haven't found a bearing solution yet. Measure the crank. Look at realistic bearing options that'll work with the drum and then use a bushing for the difference.

More like math than geometry.

That is a nice bar, btw.

It's Oregon 10608 . It has a bushing but I suppose you could knock it out and put in a bearing but it wouldn't make any difference on how it works .No picture the camera battery went dead because some dummy forgot to charge it ,guilty as charged .

While on the subject I had adapted a standard Stihl mount 32" bar which I ran on that same 250 I have the .050 bar on .It pulled it no problem . That bar now is on a souped Stihl 038 Mag .--and it pulls it no problem .

Which one,the Oregon 18" hard nose or the Stihl? The Stihl is just a standard anything from an 024 to 066 size .All it takes is spacers, kind of like thick washers from the 3/8" bar studs to whatever the bar slot is ,12.4 mm maybe .< I forgot .You have to adapt the oil hole and the the bar tightening hole but that's no problem with a die grinder .FWIW I've put Stihl bars on a lot of saws for the simple reason they are easy to find .Try and find for example a 36" Homelite bar in decent shape for a Homey 2100 S .Nearly impossible,Stihl yes,Homelite no .

That 10608 Oregon drum comes back to Montgomery Ward saws "and some larger McCulloch models". No needle cage,of course.
May actually be the ticket but doesn't turn up in a Mac search. Here's what you'll find otherwise...
