Does anyone here make their own exhaust gaskets? I was thinking it would be cheaper than buying one at a time. Specifically the 036, 046, 066 exhaust gaskets.
Is it worth it to buy the gasket material and make several, or just buy them premade?

These gaskets are pretty cheap so why should i bother making own gaskets for 1 dollar per piece.
If I could find them for $1, Then I would just buy them. I haven't found them that cheap here in USA.

They're under $2 on ebay. Cheaper yet if you buy multiples. I think 044-066 all use the same one

Yep- I just keep ten or so on hand all the time. Some things aren't worth trying to fabricate if they're available cheap and plentiful. Those ebay aftermarket gaskets also fit some of the older saws, like the 045/056.

Same here.
They're not oem, but I'm not sure as to the availability of Stihl branded exhaust gasket material in bulk either.

I'd use the metal ones. Not sure if the soft gaskets have a metal liner in them or not. Seems the metal would be much less likely to burn out over time.
But I don't know that the soft ones aren't perfectly acceptable, either.

Farmertec exhaust gaskets are hit and miss.
I had the paper ones blow out in less than five minutes.

The stamped metal is the only way to go.[emoji108]

The am 372 gaskets are decent. Thick/tough gasket material and metal core.

I never use gaskets, I knock everything flat on a disk sander and use a little high temp RTV like ultra copper. Until Felpro came out with multi-layer steel header gaskets we use RTV on 850HP race engines. Plus the RTV keeps the muffler from fretting up the gasket surface and a little on the threads of the bolts will keep them from backing out. High temp RTV is better than loctite for areas that get really hot like exhaust systems, and it will keep the aluminum from sticking to the bolt.
