Still waiting for crank seals for my 039 conversion so I decided to call the local Stihl dealer to see if he had them and how much they cost. Only $36 plus sales tax for the pair. I'll wait for my AM seals to get here...

The aftermarket seals I've used have been fine. I usually buy a supply of them to keep here. The price you mentioned is not uncommon. A lesson learned in pricing on this item.
I use a thin amount of sealer (Yamabond for me) on the edges of the clam where these mate. Its been quite useful to assure a good seal from what I've learned.
Well wishes on your build!

As per usual practice, the seals didn't come in from China so I ordered another 5 pairs from Florida this time. Hope one bunch or the other gets here soon..

Weather is cooling off around here so saw motor is in the house while I wait on parts. If it warms up again I'll take it back out in the shop, otherwise I'll work on it on the coffee table, cardboard covered of course..

I've never had a Chinese order not show up. It takes forever sometimes but they always came eventually. I usually buy parts ahead of time to maintain an inventory for models I work on a lot.
That's what I'm starting to do, just stocking up a few Stihl parts first. I never order just one because the Chinese have deals where you can buy several at about the same price if you look around..

I thought that too, and now they are gone, and I just ordered more! What is nice is the same one works on 044/440; 046/460, and 066/660.

I mean air filters, the same for those saws, but buy both the air & fuel in bulk!

That makes zero difference on a chainsaw.

you can take the carb completely off and get the same as if the carb is on the idle position

You've got saws, go try it and report back. About 8 pulls with throttle wide open. About 8 pulls with throttle closed, choke closed or whatever, doesn't matter. It doesn't need to pull air through the carb.

No sir, it doesn't.
Not on a 2-stroke anyway

Here is a video. Lets see if it makes a difference.
