Adjusted the points and can get fire using the Stihl ZAT spark tester but when I use a sparkplug and ground it theres no spark through the plug? Tried several different plugs

Try cleaning the contacts up or just replace the points, be sure they're set at the correct gap, a new condenser is a must, then try again....;)

Point gap is around .015. Clean the points first. On a points ignition you can check the coil with an ohm meter. Low ohms but not a short on the primary with the points disconnected and about 10K or so on the secondary measured from ground to end of spark plug wire. On those Stihls you have to adjust the points through the window on the flywheel. As for the points replacement module you can try the Oregon one, they seem to work pretty well, just be sure it's grounded good but away from heat if possible..

By your picture it appears that you can set your points with the flywheel off if I'm seeing it right. Other stihls have the points cam built into the flywheel rather than the crankshaft. Yours appears to be on the crankshaft which makes adjustment easier.

Post back if you have any problem, I just got done working on a few of these. I actually prefer the points to the points eliminator kit. The condenser plays a big part in these systems also. You can buy an aftermarket condenser on ebay for under $2 and they work well.

Im missing the killswitch and the wire from tthe killswitch to the condensor. Does the condesor require it to be grounded to the killswitch?

Im baffled as why it shows on the Stihl Zat spark tester to fire but when I put a plug in the boot and ground it wont fire through the plug?
Just an uneducated guess, but the plug has more resistance than the tester. If that is the case it will need a stronger spark to fire.

I don't have a clue if it will work or not but take a look at an 029 coil and see if it will bolt on. If it will and the flywheel will also throw the points in the trash. As I said I have no idea if it would work.

What would cause that? Point gap, condensor, etc?

Ive already been pondering that idea!! Lol!! All that Id need then would be a ground to a kill switch?

This is crazy! I modified a 029 coil to fit and it also lights the Sihl Zat 4 tester up like a Christmas Tree then when I put the plug in and ground it? O fire through the plug? What gives fellows? Flywheel?
