I guess I could always leave the 50cc stock, and get the 2188 ported. I've seen Randy's build thread on the 390/2188's, and they certainly get mean with a bit of grinding.

For a first ported saw, I would port the saw you grab the most. It'll give you a chance to get used to other saws while it's gone, and when it comes back you will have a whole new love for it!

No, the 3 that I have torn down so far all had good seals and bearings. Every one was covered in fine grime and the air filters were filthy, so my diagnosis has been lack of maintenance and running with dull chains.

I got a 550 ready to run, and hope to get all 3 in the wood this weekend, for a head to head comparison. The first 261 I got running didn't impress me next to my Dolmar 5100, even though the 261 had a 16" .325, and the Dolmar had an 18" 3/8 set up. That little red saw never fails to make me smile.
