Here's a bit of comparison:

  • The Oregon greaser was 60 cents higher than the Tri-link one--$7.59 vs. $6.99
  • Oregon from Germany, Tri-link from china
  • The Oregon holds 1.5 oz. of lube and has a better cap
  • Tri-link seems to hold a little less grease and doesn't specify refillable, but has a cheap-ass threaded plug, so I think you can. Instructions say, " 你是个混蛋 " so there you are.....
  • Oregon has a thicker spring and a more solid, positive feel all around
  • Tri-Link has a pistol sorta grip but it is Asian and is going back to the supplier

Refilling them is a challenge.[emoji21]. Always have air pockets.[emoji35]

Last go round I used one of the hollow plastic coffee stirring sticks. Slide it down on the side and bleed the air bubble.

Clever idea!

I've got a cheap Chinese replica of the Oregon greaser, it's total crap. More grease blows past the 'O' ring and comes out the sides than goes out the tip. To use it, I find it easier to push on the seal inside that sits over the grease than to use it the way it was designed. As soon as it's empty I'm giving it the flick and getting a proper greaser.

Is there any issue with the Oregon greaser leaking grease out the sides?

I don't have a picture of mine but this is what I use for greasing bar tips. They are easily refillable. You can buy cartridges or just pack them like a regular grease gun

Thanks for that, I have seen those advertised but didn't know if they were any good. I'll pick one up and try it.

I see them at flea markets and garage sales on occasion. Usually priced cheap as most don't know what they are.

This is my one I got from Baileys for less than ten bux. Its head is like the cast pot metal granbergs jigs and it leaked grease from a casting air hole in the top. But after a lil JB weld its been really good. Best thing is you can pack it with whatever grease you buy in a bulk tub. I use it near daily for bar noses, clutch bearings etc. Great for saw users! Dualco-Houston, made in the U.S.A.

How about the one-year update/success story? This thing has been great and I cut a major buttload of wood. Now I currently only run the Oregons in 3/8-28" bar and a little indestructible .325" one 16" long on my MS261. Thing about lube is it's most important in those crevices and nooks you don't readily see. I like how smooth and reliable it keeps the Oregon bars. For the investment required in time and money, I recommend the little pump greaser wholeheartedly.
